80s Costume Hair and Makeup

80s Costume Hair and Makeup

The 1980s called and they definitely want me to keep crimping my hair, or at least that’s what I’m telling myself. Keep reading to check out all the goodies I used to pull off this fun 80s hair and makeup look.

My husband has always been a fan of the 80s and when he said we should have an 80s party soon I was all about it. We threw a fun 80s themed Halloween party last weekend and it was a blast. Side note: I definitely recommend a throwing a themed Halloween or anything party because it gives people an easy costume option or an idea to go with or guests can still wear whatever they want. I was surprised by how into it everyone was and the faux mullets and bright pink blush didn’t disappoint!

The 80s had tons of different styles to dress up as; preppy, glam rock, jazzercise, punk, so our first step was raiding my mom’s closet for both my and Michael’s outfits. Once we picked our favorite pieces (a vintage David Bowie tee and this fringey acid wash denim vest) we decided to be a mix of glam and rock 80s and went to town with the hairspray and blush to complete the look. Keep reading for the products I used and how to apply!

Here’s how I did it:

I reccomend that you start with dirty hair so it holds the crimp and product better. I only wash my hair once or twice week so I just planned to have a few days old hair for this. If you wash your hair more frequently, or have freshly clean hair, just add extra powder to your roots before starting.

HAIR:

1. Shake pret a powder over roots and work in with fingers or a brush

2. Flip your hair upside down a few times and apply the thickening spray heavily at roots and then all over

3. Spray a light coating of the hold hairspray all over

4. Create an exaggerated side part of your liking

5. Use a comb or brush to tease/back comb your roots

6. Using the crimp iron on medium/high heat take 2 inch pieces of hair and crimp from the root of your hair to the end. Really focus on your front pieces then work to the back.

7. Apply a generous amount of hairspray all over then use fingers to break up the crimps and tease hair more.

MAKEUP:

1. Apply your foundation base and set with a spray or powder.

2. Using nudestix in Poppy Girl draw a thick line starting at cheekbone and going up towards temple.

3. Layer Cherry Blossom Babe on top and also apply to apples of cheeks.

4. Use the the Maybeline lip crayon to line eyes on top and bottom and smudge all over eyelid for a bright link base.

5. Use an eyeshadow brush to apply pink shimmer shadow over the lip crayon and press into eyelids.

6. Finish with black eyeliner on top lash line and waterline.

7. After everything is applied set with a powder then use the milk makeup stamp to gently press stars around eyes.

8. Lastly apply black mascara and the Sephora liquid lip color for a bright pink pout.
