Halloween Dining Table Inspo

Halloween Dining Table Inspo

I had a lot of fun decorating the house for Halloween and setting the dining room table was my final touch. Since we have a much larger table than we did in our apartment, I had a lot of space to work with for table runners, centerpieces, placemats, etc.

Placemats are an easy piece that can really change the whole look of your table with minimal effort, my only problem was that I didn’t have anything seasonal yet and wanted to find ones I wouldn’t get sick of.

Sticking with my 3 color rule for decorating, I found these black and white stripe placemats on Joss and Main when I was ordering a runner for upstairs. They have a subtle Beetle Juice vibe but I can also use them with other colors, or napkins, to make them less Halloween-y.  But, since this is Halloween, I knew I wanted some plain orange napkins to complete the look. I frequent World Market on a pretty regular basis (it’s a trouble store for me because I am addicted to their pillows) so I know they have great cloth napkin sets that come in every color you could want and they have the perfect bright orange I was looking for.

Side note: the orange napkins will work through Thanksgiving also with different placemats and napkin rings. Napkin rings are another small detail that can really fine tune the look you are going for and elevate a plain or paper napkin to look great.  Instead of the webs I have on the napkins now, I’ll sub in festive gold ones.

The table was still looking a little bare with just the placemats and I wanted the finished product to be a little spookier, so I searched for a table runner to darken things up and Amazon had just what I needed. I love the mesh web runner because you can still see the wood table under it and it layers really well over my placemats and with my tabletop decor.

Just like my mantle, I keep my favorite candles up all the time so I incorporated them with the seasonal Halloween touches … pumpkins, craft flowers, etc. The reason I like to keep my usual table items out with decorations is because it blends in with the rest of my house and it’s practical. My salt and pepper always stay out and this way it adds a quirky and useful decorative vibe. The salt dish matches the coasters and our fun Johnathan Adler shakers fit the Halloween theme especially well.
