Bridal Shower Hair & Makeup

It’s always fun to get your hair and makeup done and see your look totally transform depending on the artist. Someone I have loved working with recently, as I get ready for my upcoming wedding, is Dee, the owner of Swell Beauty. I mentioned her in my Engagement Photo Shoot last week where she created a romantic look for my pictures and now I want to highlight the fun style we did at my bridal shower.

We wanted to do something playful and different than the look we decided on for my wedding but still incorporate my favorite elements — braids, long waves and wearing my hair down. (Btw I can’t wait to share more from my wedding day hair and makeup look, but I want it to be a surprise on the big day!) For my bridal shower, we thought it would be fun to work a braid into an up-do and play with some color on my eyes and lips.

Starting with my makeup, we wanted my eyes to pop and my lips to compliment them so we kept the rest of the look simple with good coverage on my skin but nothing too crazy with my blush, bronzer and contour. I also needed everything to stay put for a long day in the summer sun full of socializing and lots of photos. Keep reading to see the products she used and how Dee worked her magic.

For my makeup:

  • Prep: Mac, Fix Plus spray

  • Brows : Anastasia, brow powder

  • Eye shadow primer: Benefit, Stay no Stray ( light/medium)

  • Eye shadow: Urban Decay, Naked Heat Palette

  • Lashes: Kiss, Looks So Natural

  • Mascara: Too Faced, Better than Sex

  • Concealer:  Tarte, Shape tape in “light”

  • Foundation: MAKEUP FOREVER HD

  • Setting Powder: MAC, Loose translucent powder

  • Contour/Bronzer: Too Faced, Chocolate Soleil

  • Blush: MAC, matte blush in “Peach”

  • Highlight: Becca, “Champagne Pop”

  • Lips: MAC, Matte Lipstick in “ Runway Hit “

  • Setting spray: Morphe, Continuous Setting Mist

For my hair I asked Dee to go over how she prepped everything.

“To create boho waves, I set the hair first then      did the makeup look. After spraying the roots with dry shampoo & the rest of the hair with vivacious Hair Spray. I used a 1 inch curling iron (Helen of Troy gold curling iron) and wrapped square sections of hair around iron (holding clamp up) then sprayed with bed head hard head & then set the hair in an old fashion shampoo set by pinning curled square sections (used 2 prong clips) to the head to have longer lasting waves. By letting the hair set longer than 20/30min , you will have a longer lasting style. Once I took her hair out of the set & styled, I used the bed head shine spray & Redken wax spray to tame any fly always.” – Dee

Once my curls were done she took the front section and separated two pieces to frame my face and then did a braid going into a messy top knot bun. I get self conscious about my ears poking through so she made sure to leave hair in the front and make a thick braid too.

Here are the products she used:

  • Big sexy “dry shampoo” in roots before styling/curling

  • Prep Hair before curling with  – Sfactor “Vivacious “

  • After curling , use bed head “ Hard head” ( stronger hold)

  • After Hair is styled use Bed Head “headrush Shine Spray”

  • To tame any fly always use Redken “Spray Wax”
