How to do Quick and Easy Curls (Tutorial and Video)
This Holiday season was packed with lots of gatherings and nights out. It was also super busy, which meant getting ready quick was essential. I finally mastered a quicker version of curling my hair and wanted to share it here. Sort of an update to my 10 minute messy waves post from last year and I did this exact routine all month long.
What you need:
– A curling iron or wand
– A claw clip
– A heat protectant
– Finishing spray
I finally busted out this drybar curling iron that I got in a bundle set and love it! It heats up so fast and makes my hair seem polished and extra smooth. Even though it’s an iron not a wand, I still like to wrap my hair around it the same way you would with a wand. I’ve found that it holds up longer when I curl it that way and I also like the shape of the curls more.
Side note: This technique does work faster if you have some natural texture or waves in your hair like I do since you’re just refining the curls, but it’s still a great way to polish your look and add waves to any hair type.
Here’s how to do it and a quick awkward video of me getting ready. Start to finish is less than 10 minutes!
Step 1: Don’t brush your hair, you want it a little messy to hold the curl.
Step 2: Mist a fine and even spray of heat protectant to prep your hair. I like bumble and bumble’s invisible oil primer and finishing spray for this.
Step 3: Divide your hair into two parts; a smaller top chunk with the front and top of your hair and a large bottom chunk and clip it with a claw clip.
Step 4: Split your bottom half of hair into left and right sections to begin curling. Begin at the back of your hair so you can separate the curls to cool behind your back when you’re done.
Step 5: Take roughly 1 to 2 inch thick chunks of hair and curl the bottom half of the strand.
Step 6: Once you’ve finished the bigger bottom portion of your hair, unclip the top portion.
Step 7: There should only be a few more pieces to curl. Separate the uncurled hair and start at the top of the strand to curl. You want to focus on the top and bottom of the hair at the front since you see it the most, unlike the back layer where I just do the ends.
Step 8: For bangs or front fringe / long layers, wrap them together with a longer strand for an even curl that flows well.
Step 9: Tuck hair behind your ears to cool and spray with finishing spray.
Step 10: Run your fingers through any curls that you want to loosen up and through the front of your and you’re all set!
