A Vampy Concert Look: Red Lips & a Mini Dress

A Vampy Concert Look: Red Lips & a Mini Dress

I always struggle with wanting to look cute while still being comfortable at a concert. A lot of the time I just get over it, knowing I am going to put my hair up in a bun to cool down a little bit inside a crowded venue and that it is going to be too dark for anyone to notice what I am wearing. Oh and the fact that everyone is their to see a band not pay attention to what dress I decided on. This outfit balanced style and comfort and was a fun vampy look to pull of for a night in LA. Plus, since I was getting dinner with my friend in Down Town before the Alt-J show I wanted to look nice.

I got this cute little Cotton Candy LA wrap dress the other day and figured I’d bust it out for the show. The stars and spots in the pattern were a little more trendy than what I usually go for, but I feel like wrap dresses and tops are universally flattering and are so easy to throw on so I couldn’t resist.

Trying not to laugh at Michael laughing at me when I try to be serious is a skill I have not yet acquired.

Knowing I would be walking and standing a lot throughout the night I actually wore some comfortable footwear and though these might not look like it, they are very wearable for a long day or night. The heal is short and rubber so it gives a bit of support and the sides stretch when you walk instead of binding your feet like the majority of my boots do. They are Matisse and I got them on sale a few months ago after seeing them at a boutique I like in San Clemente (also where I got the dress.) I love when you see something you like and can find it online for a better deal. That being said, they aren’t online anymore but they still have them at Isabelle’s Cabinet and they are under $100.

When it came to touching up my makeup from the day and bringing it into a night look, I wanted some lipstick and a couple extra swipes of mascara and that was it. I run hot and always get really sweaty at concerts (yeah, gross) so I didn’t want my makeup melting off.  I grabbed a long lasting matte lip and waterproof mascara to stay put. I actually applied this lip on accident and then felt like I looked  a little vampire-y with my Edward Cullen status white skin, so I embraced it and went with a monochromatic look and dusted some of my red NYX eye shadow all over my lids.

I have a bad habit of doing my makeup in really dim light so when I reached for this stila Stay All Day liquid lip I thought it was a lighter pink color that I had in the same drawer. Oh well, I worked with the red lips and was able to eat dinner, drink at the show and only touch up the middle once during a quick bathroom break. You can shop the liquid lip here.

(Sidenote: We went to Colori Kitchen which was just a couple miles away from The Shrine and BYOB. The food was amazing Italian food with fresh made pasta, creamy burrata cheese and warm baked bread and you can bring your own wine to enjoy without any corkage fee. I thought this was the weirdest/coolest thing ever so I didn’t question my confusion and enjoyed the wine that my mom and friend brought. They were really quick to bring food out at first but got pretty swamped towards the end, so I would recommend telling them you’re headed to a show so you don’t run out of time.)

My makeup lasted till the end of the night and the dress kept me cool and comfortable inside the packed venue. I would highly recommend finding some go-to concert boots that keep your feet safe from other dancers stomping on your toes, and getting a long lasting lip too!
