How to: A Festive Christmas Table Setting

Decorating the dining room is becoming one of my favorite things each month. Our table is a focal point right when you walk through the doors and I try to keep it set so it looks nice and I’m not tempted to dump my purse and mail down every time I get home. From Halloween, to Thanksgiving, to now, I’ve learned to value the difference a place mat or table runner can make and that setting your table is a relatively easy way to create something beautiful in your home.

World Market, Anthropologie and Pottery Barn have become my go to shops for getting table decor and I found a lot of good finds at World Market a few weeks ago for my Christmas table.

Here are some of my tips for building up your table setting how I decorated our table for this Christmas. Like I said before, sticking to a few colors is key with whatever you’re decorating. For the table I went with red, white and gold. For our tree I did gold, pink and turquoise and for our mantle I went with gold, green and white. More on those to come,  but for now, here is how I did the table setting.

1. A solid base. I went with a red table runner to lay the base for everything else. I am loving pom-poms right now and thought this was such a cute and whimsical runner to build off of.

2. Seasonal dishes and a statement charger. I played around with a few options to put under the dishes (just the table, place mats, gold doilies)  and stuck with the gold chargers because they added a pop of elegance and the gold ties in with the rest of my holiday decor. These gold snowflake napkin rings kept with the theme and elevated the plain cream colored napkins. I also found these Christmas wine glasses at a dollar store and got a bunch to use at my Christmas party but decided to keep them on the table.

3. All the candles! I always use candles as a center piece on my tables and I loved the look of these elegant and simple glass column candles that I had leftover from my wedding. I added some red candles to break up the white.

4. Decorative details. Since I have so many candles on the table and around the house right now, I thought it would be functional and cute to put my gold wick trimmer, tweezers and candle snuff on the table. It still needed a little more so I added some snowflake and candy cane ornaments and a couple nutcracker ornaments too.

5. Festive focal point. I saw this light up glitter tree globe at Bath and Body Works when I was getting some Christmas candles (you can never have too many) and had to get it. It started off on our mantle, but found it’s holiday home on the table. It is sold out on their site but available here.

I hope you can get some inspiration if you haven’t set your table yet and if not,  table some ideas for next year. Merry Christmas!
