My Top 10 Hair Care Products

My Top 10 Hair Care Products

I keep my hair routine pretty low maintenance. I like to use a handful of my favorite products to enhance the way it naturally looks and I wanted to share them here! Some of these hair products I have been using since high school, and others I just found this year after I was researching how to grow my hair back out. Believe it or not, this is “short” for my hair, but it has grown several inches over the last year–finally!

My hair grows incredibly slowly, so even if I were to do the trim every few months to help growth that people suggest, I would just be losing the progress. So, I get it cut about once a year, wash it a couple times a week and air it dry. I only use hot tools a few times a month to either straighten it, or add some more polished waves in with a wand.

So basically, all I do after washing my hair is run some oil through the ends, spray it with detangler or a leave in conditioner, let it dry and I’m good to go. I am really lucky because I have never had to color my hair, so even though it isn’t as blonde as it used to be, or as blonde as I like, I probably wont color it any time soon just because of how much maintenance goes into coloring blonde hair. I have been using a blonde enhancing shampoo that I linked below which I really like and I always follow with a mask instead of regular conditioner to help replenish moisture.

I usually only brush my hair before washing it. So, if I am not washing my hair but have to brush it, I love to put a couple pumps of Moroccan oil through it to bring back some moisture and shine and help the waves form again from the fluffy brushed mess. I also notice the oil helping keep my ends healthier while I grow them out which I have been working on this last year.

**Side story and warning for girls with long hair: don’t get lairs! My whole life, aside from when I was two and decided to give myself a haircut and blame it on my brother, sorry Harley,  I had the same length hair. I had bangs a bit till I was around 5 and besides that didn’t touch it at all until about 4 years ago. I would get a trim about once a year and that was all. My style was the same.

Then, after a year of college I thought my butt length hair was getting kind of boring and I wanted to get some layers around my face to add a little style. I asked for a small trim and left with about 6 inches off my hair, but it was still plenty long and I actually loved how it looked. So, the next summer when I was ready for my annual haircut I booked at Toni and Guy again and expected another great cut.

Choppy mess in 2014

The guy cutting my hair had an awesome man bun and he took it down to show me how he has layers in his hair and likes to get his cut. He seemed like he really knew what to do with long hair to make it look good, so I gave in to get his advice and let him cut layers all around. Bad idea! Not only did this make my hair look way thinner, it was so choppy that it is just now getting to be full and even along the ends again. He also made it sound like he was going to give me an awesome styling hack for letting my hair dry into perfect curls without touching it. So, I left the salon with dripping hair slicked back with gel that dried into a crunchy mess. Moral of the story is don’t let the guy with nice long hair convince you to get layers.

Anyways, its been over two years now and my hair still hasn’t recovered and after my grandma constantly telling me how beautiful I used to be and how my hair used to be so long and beautiful I decided to invest in some quality products and try to get my old hair back.

I found this blogger with gorgeous long locks and a post she wrote abut her go to hair products I ordered most of them right after reading. I had never heard of Wella before and was convinced to try not only the oil she suggested but a bunch of their other products because Ulta was running a gift with purchase and buy two get one on the brand so I stocked up. The other product she suggested was this Unite 7 second detangler that I love and spray on my hair after toweling it off.

Along with these new additions, I have been loving MoroccanOil (the name brand) and Cowboy Magic since high school. MoroccanOil was kind of the first trending oil product before the last year or two where you see oils  everywhere for everything. I love how this stuff smells. I actually huff it off my palms after applying it to my hair and would chose to smell like it at all times if I could.

Cowboy Magic is something you get at a tack and feed or animal supply store that they use on horses like the Mane & Tail that people have been using for ages. It is seriously the best detangler ever. You squeeze some of this shiny slime onto your palms, pat it into your knots and a couple minutes later they basically work themselves out.

My favorite wands and straightener:

Even though my hair is naturally wavy, I still like to clean it up sometimes with a wand.

I borrowed this Profashion Wand from my friend so much that she told me to keep it and it is my favorite for smooth waves that last a few days. I have the 1″ singular wand but this set has three heads for more variety.

When I wanted a tiny wand to experiment with, I didn’t want to spend a lot but also wanted one that wasn’t metal so it wouldn’t damage my hair as much. I found this one on Amazon for about $25 and it is so good. It heats up almost instantly and you only have to hold your hair on it for like 5 seconds to get really intense curls so even though it is tiny, you ca do all your hair fast. I used it for this 70’s style teased hair. Both of these wands are tourmaline which helps smooth hair and minimize damage.

I have also used this ConAir wand in the past you can get at CVS or Target.

I rarely straighten my hair but I love ceramic plated straighteners. I got mine at a mall kiosk years ago and it works very. In high school I used a CHI brand one so that is linked here as well as another ceramic plated one.
