The Best Couples and Group Halloween Costumes

October is definitely one of my favorite months. The leaves start to change and a Fall tinge takes over the air. It might not cool down enough to be wearing sweaters and boots but it brings with it Halloween and many excuses to get dressed up during the month.

Every year since before I was even born, my grandparents have hosted something called Monster Meal. It used to be on Halloween day when we were young and we would eat dinner and get some treats and presents before heading out to trick or treat. Then as the grand-kids got older, it was moved to the Sunday before Halloween. This is the main event I dress up for because Halloween day is also my boyfriend, Michael’s, birthday. We usually go out to dinner and celebrate him that day so dressing up for the main event happens with my family.

Last year, we decided to go as Gomez and Morticia Addams. Then as we were getting ready, my brother was thinking of what to be and we decided he would be the perfect Lurch and my mom the perfect Grandmama. I had enough black and white makeup to go around so we all pulled it off great. Even with the two of them being last minute.

This was the wig I wore, from Amazon. I also used this white face makeup and the lightest shade in Maybeline Fit powder to hold it in place. Any black eye shadow works to fill in your eyebrows as well as the contour used on a fluffy brush and brushed in the hollow of your cheeks. This is a great red lip to wear for costumes because it will last all day or night.

The year before Michael and I went as one of my favorite fictitious couples, Russell Hammond and Penny Lane from Almost Famous. All we needed to do that year was raid my mom’s and his step-dad’s closet, tightly curl my hair and get a wig for Michael.

My favorite Halloween costumes are the ones you can throw together with stuff you have in your closet and just have to buy a couple of things to pull together. With the exception of wigs and some makeup both of those looks we made work with stuff we already had.

I have to give a shout out to Michael’s step dad Don though because his wardrobe has come in clutch every time we have dressed up. Authentic black silk and velvet smoking jacket for Gomez? He’s got it. Awesome cowboy boots for a 70’s look? He had them and even when we dressed up for a Downton Abbey partly he had the vests, pocket watches, canes and hats to go with it.

Michael also humors me every time by shaving his facial hair in accordance with our characters. His pencil mustache for Gomez was a hug as well as the full stache and soul patch for Russell.

This year we have another family member to throw into our costume plans; our dog, Beety. Yes we are those people who not only do couple costumes but now do theme costumes to include out dog.

So we figured that he would make the perfect grandma wolf for us to do Little Red Riding Hood. This year I actually have to order an outfit for myself as well as the grandma wig and bonnet for Beety. But Michael can get away with a flannel and jeans to be the lumberjack that saves Red Riding hood.
