What to Wear to A Fall Wedding : Hair, Makeup, Shoes and Dresses

What to Wear to A Fall Wedding : Hair, Makeup, Shoes and Dresses

Last weekend I had a great time attending a beautiful Fall wedding in Laguna Beach, CA. Tucked away on the other side of Pacific Coast Highway is The Ranch at Laguna Beach. Formerly known as the Ben Brown’s golf course and restaurants, The Ranch has undergone some changes and is such a beautiful and woodsy location for a rustic wedding.

The ceremony took place underneath an alley of trees in the middle of the golf course and was followed by a beautiful reception on a deck over looking the greens and adjoined to the ballroom where dinner and dancing took place after sipping on signature cocktails and snacking on hors d’oeuvres.

The couple’s signature drink was a “Skinny and Spicy Margarita” which was delicious! The food was great too and as soon as I try to recreate this creamy mustard and red onion pasta I will be sharing it on the blog!

Now onto this Fall Wedding Look.

Being the end of September, it wasn’t quite summer anymore but Fall doesn’t really show up for a while in Southern California. So, I wanted a summery style dress with more Fall-esque accessories and touches.

I found this dress on LuLu’s and when I saw it paired with this belt I went ahead and got the whole look. When it came to choosing my other accessories I wanted shoes to compliment the belt and pulled out these old Jeffrey Campbell shoes I’ve had for ages. I think this look would be great with some tan leather and wooden clogs or a neutral heel too. I love these Free People statement shoes too and they’re 50% off right now!

The dress is really long but fits true to size beyond that. I am just shy of 5’9″ and was wearing about 5 inch heels and the hem was perfect so if you want to wear shorter shoes, or are on the shorter side, you will probably want to plan on getting it hemmed.

I bought this vintage looking beaded bag from Free People last December and the wine color paired perfectly with the navy dress. There’s a similar one here.

When it came to getting my makeup done, my go-to choice of Sephora was already booked up. I love getting my makeup done there because you only have to spend $50, which let’s face it it’s hard to get out of there for under $50. So if you time your purchases with an event, or even if you feel like getting dolled up for a date night, hold off on buying your skincare till you have an hour for them to do your makeup too. They also have the best range and variety of beauty stores so you can buy whatever you need to qualify for your makeup.
Since Sephora was booked up, I decided to try MAC. I have wanted to get a couple of their products recently so I decided to go to the MAC counter in Nordstrom since I had a few gift cards to spend there. MAC is known for having a bit of a heavy hand when it comes to their makeup artistry but my artist’s own makeup was exactly what I was looking for so I gave her creative control with a guideline of a “golden smokey eye”. She did a great job, but I am not used to wearing so much makeup so I felt a little overdone.

She primed my face with the “Strobe Cream” moisturizer before doing my eye makeup.

She used the “Power Hungry” palette on my eyes and a combination of “Bosom Friend” a creamy lipstick and “Lasting Sensation” lip pencil for my lips.
She chose a blush that looked really dark in the pot but blended really nicely. It was a rusty color called “Love Joy”.
I ended up buying Velvet Teddy Lipstick, and the lip liner and lipstick she used on me for my products to pay for the service as well as the lashes she used on me Lash 12, which were full and fabulous. My eye makeup lasted all day and night and the lipstick was great too. I wasn’t a fan of the foundation she used on me because it looked kind of cakey and I accidentally rubbed a bit of it off and had to scramble to blend it back in with a sponge I had in my makeup brush.
I think I will go back to Sephora the next time I need to get my makeup done but I would still recommend MAC and most of the products she used on me.

For my hair I asked a friend to put a couple of braids in before I left work on Friday and the next day I used a curling wand to wave the rest of my hair. It was great because the braids added some style to my usually all down hair and kept it out of my face while still letting my have a long and flowy look. If you, or someone you know, can do some braids I reccomend throwing a couple in your hair and curling the rest. It saved me a trip to a blow out bar and I got lots of compliments.

If you have any weddings coming up, here are some other dresses I love for Fall weddings.

Shop Flynn Skye looks here. I love pairing high slit dresses or skirts with boots like this too. I wore this Flynn Skye wrap set last Fall for a wedding and loved wearing boots with it.

Shop this one from LuLu’s here.

And this Free People one here.
